Why do I need to know about biometrics?
- There are a number of reasons
why. Your own personal identity is created by your physical
attributes and these make you different from anyone else. Your
attributes are or will be held on a computer after you have been
through an enrolment process. In effect that means your own
unique bodily information is retained by the state or a company.
We explain in detail how, where and why the information is held
and what might happen to your information in the future.
How is the information you provide different or better from
what I can pick up from the Internet or even a salesman?
- Search for the word ‘biometrics’
and you will be presented with literally 1000’s of web sites –
but most of these are suppliers and therefore they only cover a
particular area relating to their own products. Salesman will
tell you only about their own products too. There are so many
issues associated that they do not or cannot provide you with an
appropriate knowledge base.
We tell you about the alternative
technologies, potential problems and side issues, real life
experiences, unbiased and from people who have been ‘in the
business’ for years.
Will I learn everything about biometrics?
- Biometrics is new technology
and a science that is still growing. Biometrics do not work
alone – they always need a complimentary technology like access
control, passports, ID cards, databases and cameras and we cover
systems as a whole. When we explain these connections, the real
meaning of biometrics becomes even clearer to you. We also
discuss points such as The Data Protection Act, civil liberty
and union and public acceptance issues. Whilst we cannot teach
you everything in the time scale, our
biometrics training courses covers more ground
than any others. And remember, we can also provide further
information with our one to one informal sessions designed
around your needs.
Biometrics are just another hi tech subject, the course will
send me to sleep
- On the contrary, everyone who
has attended our
biometrics training courses have found them to be not only
interesting but fascinating too. We believe that it is
connecting our bodily makeup with computers that make it
compelling to find out what is really going on. Virtually everyone
leaves thinking in an entirely new dimension.
I already know about biometrics?
- That’s good but you may need
to attend to keep up to date with refresher courses or to learn
and discuss about a specific issue. As new technology and
systems appear, we bring these into
our course material. We also
include an extremely popular discussion session at the end of
every course where we always have an interesting debate about
current affairs, and where the technology is heading in the
future and how our lives will change for the better or worse.
What will I learn?
- We will teach you the
basics
of biometrics – the enrolment, sampling and identification
works. We explain the different types of biometrics and when,
where and why they are used. We explain the words that are used
– such as ‘multi-modal’. You will receive a practical
demonstration – again always a popular part of our course and if
you pardon the pun – ‘ a real eye opener’!
The Essentials of Biometric
and Biometrics for Access Control and Time & Attendance courses
are more suitable for those who are going to implement
biometrics in their organisation, but anyone can attend. Here we
dig deeper into the subject matter such as identification vs
verification advantages and disadvantages, threshold levels,
database search sizes and speed factors, real world applications
– successful and unsuccessful, access control and time and
attendance systems, using biometrics for different scenarios,
main countries of products development, types of biometric
suppliers, spoofing, standards, cross compatibility issues,
users responsibilities and we even discuss biometrics as shown
and used in recent Hollywood films.
Please refer to our
biometrics training courses
section which gives more detailed information.
I don’t really need information because biometrics will go
away?
- Over recent years we have
seen the introduction of new technologies which affect our lives
– speed cameras, high street and shopping surveillance cameras,
satellite navigation etc. No technologies are going and more and
more ways of state control, taxation , anti-money laundering and
other controls are being introduced to regulate us almost every
day. Biometrics will further enhance the controls and once
introduced into the mainstream will bring us closer towards
George’s ‘1984’ – or will it?
Who can attend the course?
- Anyone who has an interest
can attend. You may be an individual who just has a passing
interest or you may be looking to see how biometrics can be used
now or in the future in your business or organisation. We have
no age restrictions and whatever the age, we try and make our
biometrics training courses as much fun as possible.
How much do the courses, one to one or consultancy sessions
cost?
- Prices are provided on
request as they are dependant on various factors such as numbers
of attendees and location. Please contact us for details.
Are your costs expensive?
- Our prices are in line with
high quality specialist training courses. The number of
knowledgeable biometric experts are few and far between and
therefore at a premium.
Our hand picked trainers have years of
practical experience and knowledge unparalleled anywhere else
and this invaluable information is passed on to you and this
allows us to tell you how and when the technology fails. It also
helps make the sessions and discussion points interesting. You
also need to consider the fact that if you are looking to
install a biometric system, the potential cost savings by being
aware of all the issues and choosing the right system can pay
for the
biometrics training courses many times over both financially and in time.
Other courses are available – why should I use yours?
- As previously explained,
Jarcom only uses trainers with the highest level of
understanding and experience. We can teach more in a day than
others in a week. Our
biometrics training courses are not only about us, but they
involve your input as well – helping you to discuss the issues
at hand.
Where are the course held?
- Unless otherwise stated or
pre-arranged, we hold our
biometrics training courses at venues in or around London.
Alternatively, we are able to arrange courses on-site anywhere in
the UK or overseas.
I do not have time to attend a structured course but I need
to get up to speed with to at least have a sensible ‘dinner
conversation’
- No problem,
you can book us
for an informal one to one chat session whether at our place or
yours where you can throw all your specific questions at us or
we can prepare an outline of the session based around your
needs. Just contact us to discuss and get prices.
Can you run your courses abroad?
- We can. Obviously time and
expenses will need to be added. Please
contact us with your
requirements.
How many can attend at the same time?
- We try and keep our classes
to around 6 per
biometrics training course so that we can give a more personalised
service and better attention. We can arrange larger groups and
even individual sessions. Please
contact us with your requests.
I know a little about biometrics so can you tailor a course
to specifics?
- We can and we are delighted
to discuss your individual requirements.
Why are biometrics not being taught in schools?
- As by example some years ago
(and probably still) teachers knew nothing about computers.
Computing was only university material. In fact children who had
home computers ended up teaching the teachers. It’s not like
that now since the rotation and cycle of teachers are coming out
of training with computer experience.
The same thing is happening
with biometrics – but on a slower scale since biometrics (at the
current stage) is more specialised than general computing.
Biometrics is being taught in universities but it will take some
time before it reaches the school curriculum.
What happens if I have booked but I need to cancel a course?
- This depends on the notice
you give us. The nearer the time of the booking, the less chance
we have to find a replacement. We will try and help you where we
can but commitments will need to be met.
What happens if you cancel a course?
- In unfortunate circumstances,
if we cancel we will offer you an alternative date or full
refund.
Can you provide consultancy?
- Yes we can and often do to
companies and organisations. Since this is outside our normal
training program and quite often contracts are extremely varied,
please contact us to discuss.
